A D + C, or dilatation and curettage, is most commonly performed together with a hysteroscopy. Usually general anesthesia is used for these procedures. Sometimes, local and sedation is used. Most often patients go home on the day of surgery following these procedures, rather than staying in the hospital overnight. It is common for patients to experience some crampy abdominal discomfort something like a period after these procedures. Dr. Karrie Bataskov
