Most patients having hernia repair will go home on
the day of surgery. Hernia repair is most often performed under local
anesthesia and sedation or general anesthesia. Both of these
techniques provide the patient with perfect comfort during the surgery and allow discharge
from the recovery room in about two hours.
Less commonly hernia repair is performed with spinal or epidural anesthesia. These
techniques provide very good operating conditions and perfect comfort also, but the
patient may need to stay a bit longer after surgery before going home.
